Spring is when Ottawa families start traveling and heading into the office. We need great people before they do.
From Victoria Day weekend through the end of August, the demand for premium in-home pet care in Ottawa ramps up. That is our busiest season, and it rewards the people who join us now, before it peaks.
The Pet Care Pros and walkers who join in April are fully established with their client families before summer arrives. They walk into July and August with a book of clients who already trust them, look forward to seeing them, and rely on them.
Joining in July is possible but joining in April is better planning.
What we are looking for
The best way we can describe it: someone who genuinely understands what it feels like to be a pet parent. Not someone who is good with animals in a general sense, but someone who reads an animal, who communicates with the family behind them, and who cares about getting it right even when no one is watching.
If that sounds like you, here is the more specific breakdown.
Animal experience: 2 or more years of hands-on care with dogs and cats of all ages, including puppies, seniors, and pets with complex or high needs.
Medication comfort: You can administer oral and topical medications and follow an established health protocol without supervision.
Communication skills: You respond quickly, you share updates before families have to ask, and your photos and videos actually show you engaging with the pet. Not just proof of life, real moments.
Reliability: You arrive on time. For every Meet and Greet, every single pet sit, no exceptions and no last-minute cancellations.
Tech comfort: Apps, Google Workspace, invoicing, and our Time to Pet platform all feel natural to you.
Driving: A valid G2 or G licence, a clean driving record, and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
Fitness: You can handle walking in Ottawa weather in every season and lift up to 50 lbs when needed.
Age: 21 years or older.
The mindset we hire for
We want to be honest with you here, because we think you deserve that.
This role is designed as supplemental income for professionals who already have a primary career and who work remotely, hybrid, or freelance. That flexibility is what makes it possible to take morning, midday, evening, weekend, and overnight assignments without it creating conflict with everything else in your life.
If you are between jobs or looking for something to bridge a gap while you figure out what comes next, this is genuinely not the right fit. Our clients build real bonds with their Pet Care Pro. When a sitter leaves after a few months, that causes disruption to an animal who had started to count on them. We take that seriously, and we hire accordingly.
If you are someone who wants a meaningful, long-term supplemental role that grows alongside your professional life, you are exactly who we are looking for.
“We felt fully confident leaving our dog and house in her care. Always kept up to date with plenty of great photos of our pup having an overall great time.” — Graeme Blair
Our Values
Limitless Pet and Home Care is Ottawa’s first Black woman-owned premium in-home pet care service. We are actively inclusive and supportive of BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and Persons with Disabilities communities. This shows up in how we hire, how we serve our clients, and how we show up in Ottawa.
The person we hire will be working in private family homes. Some of those homes have security cameras in common areas like living rooms and kitchens. Bathrooms and bedrooms are never monitored. If that feels fine to you and you hold personal privacy as a genuine value, great. If it makes you uncomfortable, this is not the right role.
What It Requires
- A minimum 6-month commitment, our clients need stability and continuity from their Pet Care Pro
- An annual Ottawa Police background check, required on hire and renewed each year
- Pet First Aid certification is optional but highly recommended, we can provide the link
- A signed contractor agreement and your own liability insurance is recommended
- Availability for at least 2 weekends per month and most Federal Holidays
- Openness to Early Morning, Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Overnight (8pm to 8am) shifts as client needs require
- Awareness that one no-call no-show results in immediate removal from assignments, the pets in your care depend on you
What You Earn
- 50/50 commission split per service (overnights are 65/35).
- Minimum wage for Meet and Greet appointments
- Every tip is yours to keep, 100 percent
- Paid every Sunday following the week you worked
What You Get Beyond the Pay
Flexible scheduling built around your primary career. A company that finds the clients for you so all you have to do is show up and do the work you love. Year-round consistent income, not seasonal. Full training on Time to Pet and all our systems. A small, close team with company events and real professional development.
The relationships you build with animals who genuinely look forward to seeing you. The families who tell you that you changed how they feel about leaving. That is not something every job can offer.
This Is Not the Right Fit If
- You need this to be your primary income
- You cannot commit to at least 6 months of consistent, reliable service
- Weekends, evenings, and holidays are not available to you
- You are uncomfortable with home cameras in common areas or with the privacy responsibilities of working in private residences
- You are not willing to maintain your background check
- You don’t have access to a reliable vehicle
- You’re not detail-oriented
